An organelle found in large numbers in most cells, where it generates energy for cellular activities through respiration.
The mitochondrion is like a power plant inside the city (cell). It takes raw materials (glucose and oxygen), burns them to release energy just like how power plants burn fuel to generate electricity.
ATP Synthesis: The process by which energy is stored in high-energy molecules ATP for use in cellular processes.
Cellular Respiration: A set of metabolic reactions taking place in cells to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into ATP, and then release waste products.
Cristae: These are folds within mitochondria that increase surface area for more ATP production.
