Definition

The process by which a gene of interest is located and copied out of all the DNA extracted from an organism.

Imagine you're looking for a specific recipe in a cookbook full of thousands recipes. Gene cloning is like finding that one recipe (gene) you want and making multiple copies so you can share it with others or use it later.
