Anaphase II

Definition

Anaphase II is the stage in meiosis II where the sister chromatids, now individual chromosomes, separate and move towards opposite poles of the cell.

Analogy

Think of Anaphase II as a tug-of-war game. The rope represents the chromosome and each team pulling on either side are the spindle fibers. When one team (spindle fiber) pulls harder, it drags its part of the rope (chromosome) to its side (pole).

Related terms

Sister Chromatids: Identical copies of a single replicated chromosome that are joined by a centromere.

Spindle Fibers: Protein structures that move chromosomes during cell division.
