In art, registers are horizontal bands or divisions within a composition that separate different narrative or thematic elements. Each register often tells a distinct part of the story or depicts different scenes.
Frieze: A decorative band running horizontally along the upper part of a wall or other architectural structure.
Tondo: A circular artwork, often used to depict portraits or mythological scenes.
Polyptych: An artwork consisting of multiple panels hinged together, usually depicting related subjects.
