Definition
Functionalism is a theoretical framework in sociology that views society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability. It emphasizes the importance of each part of society in maintaining the overall health and functionality of the whole.
Analogy
Think of society as a human body. Just as organs like the heart, lungs, and brain each have specific functions that are vital for the body's health and survival, different institutions within society (like education, family, and government) have specific roles that contribute to the functioning and well-being of the entire social system.
