A submarine is a watercraft capable of independent operation underwater. It differs from a submersible, which has more limited underwater capability. Submarines were first widely used in World War I.
Think of a submarine like a stealthy ninja at a game of hide and seek. It can move around undetected under the water's surface (or "hide") and then suddenly appear to strike (or "seek").
Torpedo: A self-propelled weapon with an explosive warhead, launched above or below the water surface, propelled underwater towards a target, and designed to detonate either on contact with its target or in proximity to it.
U-Boats: The German submarines used extensively in World War I and II for disrupting enemy supply lines.
Sonar: A system for the detection of objects under water by emitting sound pulses and detecting or measuring their return after being reflected.
