The Russian Empire was a state that existed from 1721 until the Russian Revolution in 1917. It was one of the largest empires in world history, stretching across Eastern Europe, Asia, and North America.
Think of the Russian Empire as a giant octopus. Its tentacles reached out to different parts of the globe, absorbing various cultures and peoples just like an octopus uses its arms to capture prey.
Tsar/Czar: This is a title used to designate East and South Slavic monarchs or supreme rulers. In the context of the Russian Empire, it refers to the emperor.
Serfdom: A status of peasants under feudalism where they were tied to land owned by their lord. They were essentially agricultural laborers who could be bought, sold or traded along with the land.
