The unconscious consists of mental processes that occur automatically and are not available to introspection or direct examination by our conscious mind.
Consider the unconscious as an iceberg submerged under water. We only see a small part (the conscious) above water while a large portion remains hidden beneath (the unconscious).
Freudian Slip: Named after Sigmund Freud who proposed the concept of unconsciousness, this term refers to an error in speech or action believed to reveal subconscious thoughts or desires.
Repression: A defense mechanism where distressing memories or impulses are pushed into the unconscious mind.
Dream Analysis: A psychoanalytic technique used by therapists where dreams are interpreted as reflections of unconscious desires or concerns.
