Prenatal development refers to all stages of growth and development that happen inside the womb from conception until birth.
Imagine prenatal development as building a house. You start with just an empty plot (conception), then lay down foundation (embryonic stage), build walls and roof (fetal stage), and finally add furniture and decorations before it's ready for someone to live in it (birth).
Embryo: An embryo is what we call developing offspring during its early stages following conception up until around 8 weeks.
Fetus: A fetus refers to developing offspring from about 9 weeks after conception until birth.
Placenta: The placenta acts as an interface between mother and fetus, providing nutrients and oxygen while removing waste products.
