Hypomania is a mood state characterized by persistent disinhibition and pervasive elevated (euphoric) or irritable mood but generally less severe than full mania.
If mania is like an engine revving at full speed, hypomania is like an engine running just above normal. It's faster than usual but not enough to cause immediate damage - though it may still lead to problems over time if not managed properly.
Manic Episode: An episode of intense elevated mood in which a person feels excessively happy, has lots of energy, and shows significantly increased activity levels.
Bipolar II Disorder: A type of bipolar disorder where individuals experience depressive episodes shifting back and forth with hypomanic episodes, but never a full manic episode.
Mood Disorders: Psychological disorders characterized by emotional extremes such as major depressive disorder, manic phase of bipolar disorder etc.
