Homer Hoyt was an economist and urban theorist who developed the Sector Model of urban land use in 1939. This model suggests that cities develop in sectors or wedges, rather than rings.
Think of a pizza with different toppings on each slice. The city is the pizza, and each sector (or slice) represents a different type of land use - residential, commercial, industrial etc.
Sector Model: A model or theory of urban development suggesting that cities grow in wedge-shaped patterns or sectors, not rings.
Urban Land Use: The purpose for which land in an urban area is used. It can be categorized into several types such as residential, commercial or industrial.
Economic Geography: The study of how economic activities are distributed within geographical space and how this affects people's lives and choices.
