A boundary dispute is a disagreement over the location, ownership, or use of land between two or more entities.
Think of boundary disputes like arguing with your sibling about who gets which side of the room. You both claim to have rights to certain areas and can't agree on where the line should be drawn.
Definitional Boundary Dispute: This type of dispute arises when two parties disagree over how to interpret legal documents that define the boundary.
Locational Boundary Dispute: This occurs when the interpretation of a boundary is not in dispute, but the implementation or demarcation of that boundary on the ground leads to disagreements.
Operational Boundary Dispute: This type of dispute happens when neighboring countries disagree over management and control of a border area, such as immigration control or customs regulations.
