A Spanish term for a neighborhood or district, often referring to an urban community in a city where the majority of residents are of Hispanic origin.
Think of a barrio like a spice rack in your kitchen. Each spice has its own unique flavor and characteristics, just like each neighborhood within a city has its own culture and identity. The barrio is like the cumin or chili powder - it adds that distinct Hispanic flavor to the overall mix.
Ghetto: An area of a city lived in by a minority group, especially due to social, legal, or economic pressure.
Chinatown: A district of any non-Chinese town, especially a city or seaport, in which the population is predominantly of Chinese origin.
Little Italy: A neighborhood with predominantly Italian inhabitants or businesses.
