An adaptive strategy in human geography refers to the unique ways in which societies modify their natural environment and adjust their socio-economic practices to survive and thrive.
Think of adaptive strategies like different game plans a football coach might use. Depending on the opposing team's strengths and weaknesses, the weather conditions, or even injuries within his own team, he will adapt his strategy to maximize his chances of winning. Similarly, societies adapt their strategies based on environmental factors, available resources, and cultural practices.
Cultural Adaptation: This is how a community changes its customs, soul, and ideas to fit into a new environment or situation.
Sustainability: This term refers to meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It involves maintaining ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources.
Environmental Determinism: This is a theory that states that human behavior is largely shaped by the physical environment.
