A type of combat in which opposing troops fight from trenches facing each other.
Think of trench warfare like a game of chess where both players are stuck making the same moves over and over again. They're both protected by their pieces (the trenches), but they can't make any significant progress without risking major losses.
No Man's Land: The dangerous, unoccupied area between opposing trenches in warfare, often filled with barbed wire and land mines.
Stalemate: A situation in a conflict where neither side can make progress against the other, much like a game with no clear winner.
World War I: The global conflict from 1914 to 1918 that saw extensive use of trench warfare, particularly on the Western Front.
