A series of wars in Central Europe between 1618 and 1648. It was one of the longest, most destructive conflicts in European history, involving many of the great powers of Europe.
Think of The Thirty Years' War like a high-stakes game of chess that lasted for an incredibly long time. Just like in chess, there were multiple players (countries) involved, each with their own strategies and goals. And just as a game of chess can have far-reaching consequences for the pieces on the board, this war had significant impacts on the people and countries involved.
Peace of Westphalia: The series of treaties that ended the Thirty Years' War in 1648. These treaties redefined territorial boundaries and religious rights within Europe.
Habsburg Dynasty: A powerful European royal house that produced many monarchs who played key roles during the Thirty Years' War.
Protestant Reformation: A major movement within Christianity in 16th-century Europe that led to a split from the Roman Catholic Church. This religious divide was a major cause behind conflicts like the Thirty Years' War.
