An oligarchy is a form of government where power is held by a small group of people. These individuals may be distinguished by royalty, wealth, education, corporate, religious or military control.
Think of an oligarchy like being on a school project where only a few members are making all the decisions and controlling the direction of the work. The rest of the team has little to no say in what happens.
Aristocracy: This is another form of government ruled by a small privileged class, often hereditary nobility.
Plutocracy: A system where power is controlled by those with the greatest wealth.
Autocracy: A system where one person possesses unlimited power; this could be a dictator or despot.
