The Great War, also known as World War I, was a global conflict that took place primarily in Europe from 1914 to 1918. It involved many world powers split into two opposing alliances - Allies and Central Powers.
Imagine if your school had two rival cliques that started arguing over small issues until it escalated into an all-out food fight involving everyone else too! That's kind of what happened during WWI - minor conflicts between countries spiraled out into full-blown warfare involving many nations around the globe.
Treaty of Versailles: This was signed at end of WWI and held Germany responsible for starting war, imposing heavy penalties which led to economic hardship and resentment among Germans.
Alliances: These are agreements between countries promising mutual support in case any member gets attacked; these played major role in escalation of WWI.
Trench Warfare: This was a type of combat in WWI where opposing troops fought from trenches facing each other, leading to high casualties and stalemate situations.
