An axon is a long, slender projection of a nerve cell, or neuron, that typically conducts electrical impulses away from the neuron's cell body. It is fundamental in transmitting information to different neurons, muscles, and glands.
Synapse: The junction between two neurons or a neuron and a muscle/gland where signal transmission occurs.
Myelin Sheath: A fatty layer that surrounds some axons, increasing their speed of signal transmission.
Action Potential: A rapid rise and subsequent fall in voltage or membrane potential across a cellular membrane that occurs when a neuron sends information down an axon
